چکیده

Introduction It has been shown that chronic insomniacs, selected on the basis of the type of their sleep complaint (i.e. delayed sleep-onset vs early morning awakening) differ with respect to the phase of their circadian body temperature rhythm (Lack &Wright,1993; Morris et al., 1990). If these results reflect a causal relationship, it should be possible to predict the nature of the sleep complaint of chronic insomniacs from the assessment of their circadian phase. The present study investigated this relationship by measuring the circadian phase of insomniacs and controls and relate this to their sleep characteristics.

Chronic insomnia is associated with a shift of interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor secretion from nighttime to daytime.

Chronic insomnia, by far the most commonly encountered sleep disorder in medical practice, is characterized by difficulty falling or staying asleep at night and increased fatigue during the day. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) are fatigue-inducing cytokines, and the daytime secretion of IL-6 is negatively influenced by the quantity and quality of the previous night's sleep....

Melatonin agonists for treatment of sleep and depressive disorders

Melatonin the hormone secreted by the pineal gland has been effective in improving sleep both in normal sleepers and insomniacs and has been used successfully in treating sleep and circadian rhythm sleep disorders. The lack of consistency in the reports published by the authors is attributed to the differential bioavailabilty and short half-life of melatonin. Sleep disturbances are also promine...

Women with hereditary breast cancer predispositions should avoid using their smartphones, tablets and laptops at night

Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women, both in the developed and developing countries. Women with mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes have an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Recent studies show that short-wavelength visible light disturb the secretion of melatonin and causes circadian rhythm disruption. We have previously studied the health effects of exposure...

Sleep-readiness signals in insomniacs and good sleepers.

Sleep is preceded by physiological and behavioural events that inform the subject that it is time to sleep. Our hypothesis is that insomniacs do not adequately recognize such signals, thus missing the best time to go to bed. Eighty-seven chronic insomniac participants and 76 age-matched good sleeper controls were recruited. Semi-structured interviews focused on three aspects of nocturnal sleep:...

Effects of Circadian Rhythm on Physical and physiological Performance of Military forces- Narrative Review

The 2017 Nobel Prize for medicine was awarded the biological clock Scientist, which shows the importance of this phenomenon in the life of living organisms. The circadian Rhythm (CR) through the created internal “clock” is responsible for regulating the daily performance of different organs of the body. The central body clock is the key factor to creating and maintaining this CR. External optic...
